Play will resume . . . if weather permits
You could forgive a large number of Taranaki’s premier cricketers if they felt a sense of frustration looking out the window on Friday as the rain came down around the province.
The wet weather has been a common theme, especially for some teams, who have seen three of their four one-day matches abandoned because of the conditions.
However, the Metservice has given most hope of play on Saturday with a forecast for mostly cloudy conditions with the odd shower.
Top of the table Woodleigh will be looking to keep the momentum they’ve gained over the opening month going when they host Stratford at Sutherland Park.
While last weekend’s match against New Plymouth Marist United was called off at the midway point after they were in a reasonable position, Woodleigh have shown they have plenty of depth in their batting ranks with the likes of Peter Ingram and Moriz Hartmann in especially good form.
Stratford, too, have some talented batsmen and the side who operates best in the field could come out on top.
Hawera United also look to have some talent in their batting ranks, especially with English import Reid Mawdsley contributing plenty in his first few times to the crease. They face a New Plymouth Old Boys side who have had more time on the sidelines than on the field and a positive result for Hawera United would place them in a decent position to push for a semifinal place.
Inglewood and New Plymouth Marist United will be extremely keen to get a result out of their match in Inglewood to promote their position on the table after a frustrating start to their season.
New Plymouth Boys’ High School host Francis Douglas Mem- orial College in the remaining match. Points: Woodleigh 14, Hawera United 11, New Plymouth Marist United 10, New Plymouth Boys’ High School 9, Inglewood 7, Stratford 6, New Plymouth Old Boys 6, Francis Douglas Memorial College 2.
