Ingram in top form

-

Age does not appear to be slowing down the ability of former international batsman Peter Ingram at the crease.

Ingram, 39, continued his hot form at the top of the Woodleigh order on Saturday as the competition front runners flogged Stratford by a whopping 158 runs at Sutherland Park.

Overnight rain meant the start of play was delayed and the match reduced to 40 overs a-side.

That might have spurred Ingram on a touch, although his aggressive nature has never been slowed, as he took to the Stratford bowling attack with youthful exuberance.

No one was really spared from his onslaught as he smashed 112 off just 83 balls, including nine fours and eight sixes as Woodleigh racked up an impressive 265-9.

Needing more than six runs an over from the outset, Stratford struggled throughout and were eventually bowled out for just 107 as former Taranaki spinner Andrew Mason took 5-18 in an impressive spell.

Elsewhere, Hawera United enjoyed a dominant nine wicket win over New Plymouth Old Boys in Hawera.

Batting first, Old Boys took more than 33 overs to scratch out 110 before they were bowled out with Hawera United’s attack sharing the wickets between them.

While it was hardly a blazing chase in reply, Hawera United went about their work with maturity, opener Nick Walker making an unbeaten 55 while English import Reid Mawdsley was also unbeaten on 39 as the home side reached the target in the 32nd over.

New Plymouth Boys’ High School were humbled across town at rivals Francis Douglas Memorial College, losing by 119 runs.

Francis Douglas batted first and made 202-9 with Kurt Leuthart topscoring with 50.

Boys’ High were always in trouble and were eventually bowled out for just 83 in the 27th over, Jack Krutz the best of the Francis Douglas bowlers with 3-13.

There was an exciting end to Inglewood’s match against New Plymouth Marist United in Inglewood with the home side getting home with three balls and three wickets to spare.

Marist United had made a competitive 166 and made Inglewood work hard before Matt Simpson got them home with an unbeaten 48.
