Game official of the year
Angela Jowitt
Jowitt umpires netball at the elite level. She has been appointed a Netball New Zealand coach and assessor and has made herself available to run Netball Taranaki rules classes for umpires and clubs. She is committed to furthering the development of the Netball New Zealand Umpires Pathway and recently won the Netball Taranaki Umpire of the Year for 2017.
Sue Winter
Winter is truly committed to her role within Netball Taranaki and continues to develop other bench officials year after year. She benched the Central Pulse’s first game in the ANZ Championship and last year benched the very last game for the Central Pulse in the ANZ Championship. She was named Netball Taranaki Bench Official of the Year 2017.
Brian Velvin
Velvin’s name is synonymous with Surf Lifesaving. This season he helped with officiating, managing appeals at a national level, and mentoring through the chief officials position at the Central Regional Champs. He was also the technical advisor for the International Surf Rescue Challenge held in Australia.
Paul Williams
Williams has shown outstanding dedication to his sport and is a superb example to any budding rugby referee. Over the past year he has refereed four international test matches: Romania vs USA in Bucharest, Italy vs Scotland in Singapore, Fiji vs Italy in Suva and Samoa vs Fiji in Apia. He refereed six Super 18 matches during the past season and has also done the same number of Mitre 10 Cup games in the provincial competition.
Bridget Taylor
Taylor has dedicated nearly 20 years to touch refereeing in Taranaki, the central region, nationals and now international level, officiating at the Trans-Tasman Test Series in Australia. She received her international referee blazer while in Australia and is the first female referee to referee international touch from the central region.
