Girl, 18, ran her car at parents

-

A father pushed his partner out of the way before fleeing for safety after their enraged daughter deliberately tried to run them over with her car, writes Deena Coster.

On September 15, Natalya Saraya Xanthe Ria Weston’s seething anger and violence played out at a Hastings Rd address in Eltham, South Taranaki, the Ha¯ wera District Court was told.

After sending a menacing text threatening to kill her father, Weston, along with three friends, drove to her parents’ home about 3.30pm. The 18-year-old also had a steel bar in her possession, the summary of facts said.

When she arrived at the property her father came out and asked why she had threatened him. He then told Weston she wasn’t welcome at the address.

Upon hearing this, Weston went to pick up the steel bar but as she did so a friend intervened.

The teen’s mother then came over to the vehicle and told Weston she had to go, leaning against the car door to stop her getting out.

But Weston repeatedly shoved the door to get out of the vehicle.

She ran towards the locked front door of the house and began kicking and hitting it. Her siblings, who were inside, watched on and became upset.

‘‘Enraged, the defendant got into her vehicle and revved the engine,’’ the summary of facts said. She lined her parents up in her sights and purposely drove towards them at speed. Weston’s father pushed his partner out of the way, into a bush, before he managed to flee himself.

Not satisfied, Weston turned the vehicle and again drove directly towards her father, who managed to dodge the oncoming car once more. The teenager then drove away, but was later arrested.

On Tuesday, the teenager pleaded guilty to common assault, threatens to kill and two charges of assault with a blunt instrument.

The case was referred to restorative justice before Weston’s sentencing in the Ha¯ wera District Court on January 30.
