It’s small but this hotel has won something big

A luxury boutique hotel in New Plymouth has been rated the top in New Zealand by guests who have stayed.

King and Queen Hotel Suites was awarded the top four star hotel in the country by online hotel search website Trivago.

The website awards are based on 175 million online user ratings from online booking sites to judge the best-reviewed hotels by guests in five star, four star, three star, alternative, and value for money accommodation categories.

King and Queen Hotel Suites general manager Daniel Fleming said the globally recognised award was the result of the hard work by staff to ensure guests have an as enjoyable stay as possible.

King and Queen Hotel and Suites were judged ahead of four star accommodation, The Dairy, Queenstown, and Arrowtown House Boutique, Arrowtown.

‘‘It is based on guest reviews on all online hotel booking sites so it’s a good indication of how guests have felt about staying at the King and Queen,’’ Fleming said.

The small 28-bed inner city hotel, opposite the Len Lye Centre, had previously been ranked nationally among the top hotels in its category but had never taken top spot overall, he said.

Fleming said it was ‘‘humbling’’ and a ‘‘privilege’’ to accept the award.

‘‘It’s a testament to the staff’s hard work and their approach to providing a complete service, and connecting with guests.’’

The success won’t stop there - a two stage expansion to increase the number of rooms from 28 to 38, with serviced apartments and spa treatments is in the works.

‘‘We’re pretty proud to get the award,’’ Fleming said.

‘‘It means a lot to hotel management that we are doing things right, and also to Taranaki that we have an internationally recognised hotel which can help attract visitors to the region.’’
