Jazz Finale

Band Out to Brunch will see out the series of this year’s shows for the Taranaki Jazz Club. Featuring a wide spectrum of numbers from jazz standards through to contempora­ry swing, latin and funk, a highlight will be the harmonies by saxophone players Robin Wells and Stewart Maunder. The concert will take place on Sunday at The Mayfair 4.30pm.

Recital Closing

The final Lunchtime Organ Recital at St Joseph’s Catholic church will take place on Tuesday at 1pm. Organist Christophe­r Luke will celebrate the Advent season by performing works by J.S. Bach, Andreas Kneller, Noel Rawsthorne, Rebecca te Velde and Karl Wolfram. The series will return in February 2018.

Fibre Display

A hands on exhibition featuring the work of eight Taranaki fibre artists is on show in Ha¯wera. The artists will showcase the use of natural fibre, having used a broad range of skills to create an array of pieces. Visitors are welcome to touch the work, which includes garments, accessorie­s, jewellery, soft furnishing­s and wall hangings. Fibre Force is at Lysaght Watt Gallery until December 23.

Christmas Hymn

The final Hymn Lecture for 2018 will take place on Wednesday, December 6 at 11.30am at Taranaki Interim Cathedral. Christophe­r Luke will present a look into the creation of the popular Christmas carol O Come, All Ye Faithful, looking at both the text and music. The series will return again in June 2018.

Hands On

Budding potters are invited to give the craft a go at an upcoming market. The Christmas event held by The New Plymouth Potters will feature a number of potterywar­es available for purchase and visitors will have the opportunit­y to try their hands working with clay. The market runs this Saturday and Sunday at the New Plymouth Te Henui Vicarage from 10am to 4pm.
