Reid misses Hammers’ loss to City

-

All Whites captain Winston Reid missed West Ham’s loss to runaway English Premier League leaders Manchester City.

The 29-year-old centreback was not in the Hammers squad for the game in Manchester yesterday after hobbling off in the final quarter of the London club’s 4-0 defeat to Everton in the previous round.

David Silva scored a late goal as City won their 13th successive Premier League game and restored their eight-point lead with a 2-1 victory over West Ham.

Silva converted Kevin de Bruyne’s brilliant pass from close range in the 83rd minute as City maintained their blistering form this season.

Nicolas Otamendi had converted substitute Gabriel Jesus’ cross in the 57th minute to equalise after defender Angelo Ogbonna had headed West Ham into the most unlikely lead at the end of a first half in which the hosts dominated.

In winning their 13th successive Premier League match, City equalled the record held by both Arsenal and Chelsea.

‘‘It was difficult, teams seem to come here and get every man behind the ball, not interested in anything but parking the bus,’’

City midfielder Fabian Delph told Sky Sports.

West Ham remain mired in the relegation zone with only Swansea City behind them on the points table.

Meanwhile, Charlie Austin’s goal earned Southampton a 1-1 draw with Bournemouth in the South Coast derby.

Ryan Fraser fired host team Bournemouth into the lead in the 42nd minute but Austin equalised after 61 minutes from a Nathan Redmond cross.
