North wins in Origin cricketing challenge

North v South Origin Challenge

The inaugural North v South Origin Challenge was played Sunday 7th at Pukekura Park, this was formally known as the Graham Cup but has not been played for about 15 years.

North won the toss and elected to bat in the 60 over one day game and it wasn’t long before they asserted their dominance with a fantastic opening stand of 135 between Inglewood’s Bailey Wisnewski (77) and NPOB’s Jackson Braddock Pajo (71).

The opening stand along with Woodleigh’s Shaun Sullivan (45) helped the North side post 305 all out in the final over. Pick of the South bowlers was Ha¯wera’s Ethan Keller with 6 wickets.

In reply the South side lost an early wicket and consistent­ly lost wickets to be all out for 111, the Frewin bothers from NPBHS did the damage with Caleb picking up four wickets and Ben three. Revital Fertiliser­s Taranaki

This weekend sees the Revital Fertiliser­s Taranaki side travel to Manawatu¯ for Round 4 of the Furlong cup competitio­n. The selectors will be forced to make a number of changes from their preferred team due to various reasons. Taranaki go into the final phase of the competitio­n one point ahead of Hawkes Bay.

ICC U19 World Cup

Taranaki’s own Kaylum Boshier will lead the New Zealand U19 side into battle for the ICC U19 World Cup with the tournament commencing January 13th.

Higher Honours

Congratula­tions to the following Taranaki cricketers who have been selected in their respective Central Districts age group sides.

Mattie Allen, Ben Frewin, Shaun Fowler, Shay Smith Luond have all been selected for the CD U17 side, Mattie Allen will captain the team with Jordan Gard a non travelling reserve.

Taila Hurley and Aimee Wisnewski were selected for the U18 CD Girls team with Bronte Hill a non travelling reserve.

Jessie Hollard was named in the CD U15 Girls team.

CD U21 side won the national tournament played in Auckland, the team consisted of Taranaki girls, Emily Cunningham, Monique Rees and Taila Hurley. Both Cunningham and Hurley were named in the tournament team.

Emily Cunningham then went on to make a pleasing debut for the CD Hinds with scores of 21 and 17 in her two innings.
