Manaia’s Ethan Jones takes top spot in Mitre 10 golf tournament

A field of 172 men and women competed in the annual Mitre 10 Mega

3 day tournament at the end of last month.

In the Senior Men’s division Manaia’s Ethan Jones won the gross with a 3 round total of 215.

Jones started on day one with a

1 over par 73 at Westown and a 5 over par 76 at New Plymouth on day 2 before saving his best round until last shooting a 2 under par 66 at Inglewood which included birdieing 4 of the last 5 holes to finish 2 strokes ahead of runner-up Damien Powell (New Plymouth)

75-71-71-217.

The senior net was taken out by Westown golfer, Craig Ramage

73-68-64-205 with John Parkes (New Plymouth) 69-70-67-206 2nd.

The best gross in the Intermedia­te division came from Westown’s Tony Burn 85-83-87-245 with Trevor Schrider (Inglewood) 84-87-75-246 one stroke behind in 2nd.

Max Maaka (Westown) 71-68-67-206 finished in 1st place in the net with Ian Colson (Inglewood) 72-70-69-211 finishing in 2nd place.

The Junior Gross was won by Inglewood’s John Moore

90-88-79-257 ahead of Ian Cooper (New Plymouth) 86-87-85-258, with fellow Inglewood golfer Gary Crawford 73-62-64-199 winning the net prize with Fitzroy’s Joel Earley

67-66-68-201 in 2nd spot.

In the Women’s division Te Ngutu’s Anne Braithwait­e

91-78-68-237 bounced back from a horror start at Westown to comfortabl­y win the gross by 16 strokes from Palmerston North golfer Kay White 88-84-81-253. 1st net went to Westown’s Shone Lee 70-74-59-203 with Urenui’s Michele Grant 72-69-65-205 in 2nd spot.

Three Taranaki Golfers have made the journey north to Hamilton to play in the North Island Age Group Championsh­ips.

Josh Morris, Monte Burmester and Max Shearer are amongst a field of 113 boys playing at St Andrews golf club over 3 rounds.
