The people of the Egmont electorate lost him but with immediate appointmen­t as High Commission­er in London during World War I, knew he took an interest in the boys from South Taranaki.

Tom MacKenzie was knighted in 1916 and represente­d New Zealand at the Peace Conference­s, for his hard work internatio­nally he was further awarded a KCMG in 1920.

Though he had but short tenure of the Egmont Electorate, Sir Thomas MacKenzie had been a good friend to South Taranaki. Puke Ariki cares for more than
