Shell’s Jager accepts new role with firm in Australia

- Mike Watson

Shell Taranaki general manager Rob Jager has accepted a role with Shell Australia.

Jager’s new position with VP Prelude, Shell Australia, will begin on November 1.

There will be an extended handover period to ensure business continuity, a Shell spokeswoman said.

Shell is expected to complete the sale of the New Zealand business arm to Austrianbased exploration company,

OMV, in late 2018.

Jager will start his new role in November but continue to lead the New Zealand business until completion of the sale.

‘‘My focus has been on establishing certainty for our people at Shell in New Zealand,’’ he said.

‘‘While there is some work to do, I am really pleased with the progress that has been made.’’

Jager has been at the forefront of helping guide major health and safety initiatives since joining Shell almost 40 years ago.

He was made an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit (OMNZ) for services to business and health and safety in the New Year’s Honours list in January.

Prelude is a floating liquefied natural gas project located 475km north-northeast of Broome, Western Australia.

It is the first deployment of Shell’s Floating Liquefied Natural Gas (FLNG) technology which involves a giant floating facility extracting, liquefying and storing gas at sea before it is exported.

The facility is undergoing commissioning.
