Opinion changing like climate
In the Taranaki Daily News of October 19, Bob Sadler takes a Trumpian view on climate change.
I believe that public opinion is changing and more and more young people are convinced that we need to change our ways if we are to avoid catastrophic climate change during the next 100 years.
The coalition Government’s policy will mean that new oil and gas fields will remain undiscovered and unexploited. We will need to develop alternative sources of energy, including synthetic liquid fuels and electricity.
If perchance the scientists are wrong about climate change, the oil will remain in the ground for possible later use. It seems reasonable to leave at least some natural resources for our distant descendants.
The work needed to transition from fossil fuels to alternative sources of energy is considerable and will take more than 10 years to achieve. Now is the time to seriously address this issue, so that in 20 to 30 years from now we will have stopped burning fossil fuels and will be living with energy supplies from fully renewable sources. New industries, such as a fuel from biomass industry, will provide plenty of employment for those currently working in the oil and gas sector.
