Radio was first with Moon landing

-

Regarding Jim Tucker’s piece in Saturday’s Taranaki Daily News on false memories of the moon landing, and his correction. Even then he didn’t get it quite right and neither did the other journalist quoted.

It’s all in the headline – ‘moon landing’. That was the big news and it occurred at 8.18am New Zealand time. It was then that, where possible, the country came to a standstill, and citizens gathered around their radios to hear the momentous news. The newspaper reports and TV coverage came later in the day, as did the moon walk, which occurred some six hours later.
