Highlanders lose coach
Highlanders CEO Roger Clark concedes New Zealand rugby is competing in a ‘‘global market’’ after high performance/skills coach Cory Brown left to join brother Tony at the Sunwolves. Former Otago coach Brown had been with the franchise for only one season but has joined the increasing number of Kiwis taking their services to Japan. ‘‘There are a lot of opportunities out there for them,’’ Clark said. ‘‘That’s why we’re seeing so many New Zealand coaches and players [leaving]. Obviously they are valued all around the globe as well as New Zealand.’’ Clark said the search for Brown’s replacement had begun but he was in ‘‘no hurry’’. ‘‘We working though it but it’s not something we’re putting a date on at this stage,’’ he said.
