Starship man keen to land in NZ
David Freiberg of Jefferson Starship has never been to New Zealand but he already knows he’ll want to come back.
‘‘I’ve always wanted to come, I’m anxious to see what I can in the amount of time that I’m there and I know it’s only going to make me want to come back again.
‘‘Just talking to anyone from New
Zealand, everyone I meet is so nice,’’ the 80-year-old, who admitted most of his New Zealand knowledge came from
Lord of the Rings, said.
Freiberg will be in New Plymouth on January 11 when Jefferson Starship perform with Toto and Dragon for A Summer’s Day Live series of concerts, which include Mt Maunganui, Napier and Christchurch.
‘‘This will be our first experience on a bill with Toto.
‘‘Who doesn’t love Toto though?
‘‘That’s pretty universal.’’ Jefferson Starship was formed off the back of Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductees Jefferson Airplane, known for hits
Volunteers, White Rabbit, and
Somebody to Love.
Freiberg started off as a folk singer playing coffee houses in San Francisco and said his career has changed a lot since then.
‘‘As long as it keeps on being fun I can’t see me stopping. I’ll keep on going as long as I can, as long as they’ll have me.’’
