Industrial park plan mooted
A new industrial park could be created in South Taranaki if there is enough demand. South Taranaki District Council has advertised for expressions of interest to carry out a feasibility study on whether a new industrial area was needed, chief executive Waid Crockett said. The idea was part of the council’s Long Term Plan, completed in 2018, he said. ‘‘We’ll be talking to businesses and other stakeholders.’’ The council had set aside money for a study and the Government had contributed $50,000 from the provincial growth fund. If there was a demand the next phase would look at possible locations and developing a business case, he said. The council has been working on revitalising the Ha¯wera town centre, including two new access lanes and a supermarket development. and the council is also working on plans to revitalise the district’s other town centres, he said.
