A red light cake taken

-

We are regular users of the traffic lights at the Mangorei Rd/Northgate intersection and are appalled at the number of occasions we see cars driving (at speed) through the orange and red lights.

However, what we saw today really takes the cake!

We had to wait for two light changes to turn up Mangorei Rd and during that time we witnessed first six – yes SIX – vehicles, travelling from east to west, drive at speed through the RED light, then four vehicles drive through the RED arrow, and finally ‘‘only’’ three drive through the red lights on the next change.

Why oh why is there not a camera mounted at this corner?

Does there have to be a serious accident involving red light running before one is considered necessary?

Also why isn’t a speed camera – even a handheld one – employed on the stretch of road from the said lights to Watson St corner because a great number of vehicles travel at excessive speeds on this particular section of road?

Perhaps we could be enlightened as to the reasons by either the police or NPDC.
