Rail over road

-

In reply to Ross Soffe’s letter, I really don’t know what all the fuss is about a few kilometres of winding road involving Mt Messenger.

You stated in your letter, Ross, ‘‘Taranaki, have your say’’ and I am having my say.

Leave the natural environment alone.

We don’t need to have millions of dollars spent on a new bypass, but what we do need is for the large trucks to be taken off that particular stretch of road.

The Labour Party promised an increase in rail service in New Zealand.

So why are we not seeing this in action, for more freight to be taken to the main centres by rail and leave the roads for cars?

The large trucks are the ones wrecking havoc on the tarseal on the winding roads, and they slow the flow of traffic down, so send the freight by rail and get the trucks off the roads.
