Baby found dead

Police have confirmed that a 5-month-old baby was found dead at a Motueka house on Sunday night, while a 41-year-old woman had serious injuries. Detective Inspector Craig Scott said as part of the homicide investigation police would continue the scene examination at the Memorial Drive property. Police were speaking with someone in relation to the death. No charges have been laid but police said they are not seeking anyone else. The woman was flown to Nelson Hospital, where she remains. The people who lived at the house were a young Asian couple who kept to themselves, a neighbour said. An older woman – believed to be a relative – also lived there. The couple spoke English but the older woman did not, the neighbour said.
