Pageant raises $14K for charity
Leia Edmonds has been named Miss Taranaki.
Edmonds took out the top title while Courtney Pearce was named Miss Teen and Zeyana Singh the Junior Miss for 2019 at a gala event on Sunday night.
The pageant took place at the Plymouth International and this year’s theme honoured the suffragette movement.
During the evening, entrants displayed their pageant uniforms as well as ball or formal wear.
As part of the pageant’s platform of ‘‘beauty making a difference’’, contestants raised funds for the Taranaki Rescue Helicopter Trust (TRHT).
Between them the 25 entrants raised $14,267.60, the top fundraiser being Becky Kowalenski, with $1600. Three others raised $1000.
The pageant was held over four weeks, with contestants taking part in retirement home visits, fun activities and being part of the TRHT’s open day.
