Weber Bros Circus back in town

- Christina Persico

The Weber Bros Circus is back in New Plymouth for the first time in a decade – as are the travelling family of seven kids and one on the way.

The ‘Adrenaline’ show opened in Ha¯wera on Wednesday night and remains in the town until tomorrow, before heading to New Plymouth on Thursday, February 28.

‘‘It’s got human cannons which haven’t been seen in New Zealand for probably more than 30 years,’’ Marie Weber said.

Weber and her family – Germanborn husband Harry, who is ownerdirector, seven kids and one on the way – usually travel with the circus year-round, but do have houses in Cambridge and Australia.

‘‘Life on the road is exciting; there’s never a dull moment and we get to see such beautiful places,’’ Marie Weber said.

‘‘Each country is something different.’’

Her kids – the oldest is 19, the youngest is 15 months – have a school teacher travelling with them.

‘‘My kids have been everywhere. They were all born on the road; they grew up on the road. They all perform.

‘‘It’s a really good life.’’

The circus marked its 100th anniversary in 2009 – seven generations of Webers had worked for the circus.

After a six-year world tour visiting Australia, South Africa, Asia and Europe, Weber Bros returned to New Zealand in 2017.

The two-hour ‘Adrenaline’ show includes high-flying aerial acts, magic, the Globe of Death, FMX riders and the more traditional clown.

‘‘It’s a show that any age can come to watch.’’

The big-top tent will be put up on Henwood Rd, Bell Block. The New Plymouth show will run until Sunday, March 17, with no performances on Mondays and Tuesdays.

The circus’ next stop is Albert Park in Te Kuiti on March 20.
