‘Can England win big games?’
‘‘We gave away far too many penalties and they beat us in the air.’’
Wales earned nine penalties to England’s three and their aerial kicking game was defused by a superb display by Wales’ man of the match fullback Liam Williams, and a match-clinching try to Josh Adams off a Dan Biggar crossfield kick.
‘‘It was a tough game,’’ Jones said. ‘‘I don’t know whether we lost our heads but they put us under a lot of pressure. A few of our players were a bit off today and that happens.
‘‘Full credit to Wales, they deserved the victory and played very well.
‘‘It’s all about ebb and flow - we had a fair bit of flow, but we’ll come back for the Italian game. We didn’t attack space well today and we will find a different way to attack Italy.’’
In Paris, France broke their home ground hoodoo with a 27-10 bonus point win over Scotland.
It was only the fourth victory of coach Jacques Brunel’s 14-match reign, but France deserved their success against a depleted Scottish side.
France celebrated their first win in seven home matches in Paris while Scotland continued their 20-year drought in the French capital.
Brunel was rewarded for his bold selections with young halves Antoine Dupont and Romain Ntamack shining behind a reinvigorated French pack.
