(Not) flying with Jetstar

-

Today, March 14, Jetstar had two plane flights cancelled; the first in the morning then the second at 3.30pm. The explanation was there was extreme weather closing in and head office had said flights were cancelled.

Fair enough if that were the case, but I’m writing this at 6.50pm and the weather hasn’t changed one iota. Hardly a breath of wind!

I thought it was ironic that on the movement board two Jetstar flights were cancelled but Air NZ was still having flights all afternoon to both Auckland and Wellington.

Now the best bit is, after having passengers wait all day for a flight from early morning to the 3.30pm flight, they were then offered a bus to take them to Auckland. How convenient. What is the cost to charter a bus against two planeloads of passengers? Will the passengers get a refund?

About time Jetstar got their act together or got out of town and let another organised airline take over their routes.

George Gardiner, New Plymouth

A Jetstar spokesman said: ‘‘Our two services between Auckland and New Plymouth were cancelled on March 14 due to low visibility weather conditions at New Plymouth Airport and forecasts that conditions would not improve until the following day. We appreciate that any disruption to travel is frustrating for our customers and apologise for any inconvenience these weather cancellations caused; however, safety is always our number one priority.’’
