Todd set to miss semifinal

-

The All Blacks look set to be forced into a bench reshuffle for Saturday’s semifinal against England in Yokohama, with backup loosie Matt Todd an unlikely starter. Coach Steve Hansen confirmed that Todd has reinjured his shoulder late in the impressive 46-14 quarterfinal victory over

Ireland. It was an eventful night for the Canterbury openside who came into the contest in the 57th minute and got through plenty of work before being yellow-carded late in the piece in a defensive play. “Matt Todd has hurt that shoulder again, so we’ll have to see how he goes,” Hansen said yesterday as he confirmed an otherwise fully fit squad. Ireland might be mourning their World Cup campaign coming to a crushing end but not everyone is losing out. Guinness was quick to latch onto the loss with a marketing gimmick – that has gone viral – following Ireland’s 46-14 thrashing at the hands of the All Blacks. The official Guinness page on Twitter posted a status advising Irish fans to lay off the foamy dark black beer. ‘‘Have a pint of Carlsberg. We’re officially done with the colour black today,’’ the status said with the caption ‘‘enough said’’. In an earlier post on Facebook, that appeared shortly after fulltime of Ireland’s quarterfinal loss, Guinness pushed the Irish to support the All Blacks for their semifinal against England next week. The Wallabies might have lost to England but Australian first five-eighth and leukemia survivor Christian Lealiifano still had reason to celebrate. Despite his team falling to England 40-16, he had a great game, kicking three of three penalities, and sharing an emotional moment with his son at its conclusion. Lealiifano cried while he embraced his young son, Jeremih, and his wife Luga rubbed his head from the grandstand above. The

32-year-old returned to the international rugby scene in July following his three-year battle with leukaemia. Lealiifano, who played in Australia for

13 years, is preparing to move to Japan.
