Man leaked sex videos online

-

A Taranaki man sent sex videos of his ex to a number of people, including her new partner, a court heard.

Using Facebook Messenger, Ryan Andrew Slade set up a group conversation under an alias and invited a number of the woman’s associates, a police summary of facts outlined.

He posted two videos of the woman and himself performing sexual acts and one video of the victim in the bath.

She was unaware the videos were posted online at the time.

In New Plymouth District Court yesterday, Judge Garry Barkle described the act as both reprehensible and spiteful.

He said the woman had been much affected by the posting of the intimate videos and the breach of trust on Slade’s behalf.

Slade conceded the act was despicable, Judge Barkle said.

Defence lawyer Turitea Bolstad said the 21-year-old had spent the past three months remanded in custody making positive changes to his life.

In addition to the causing harm by posting digital communication charge, Slade was facing sentence on three charges of assault of his current partner, four of theft, two of dangerous driving, five of driving while disqualified third or subsequent, driving while suspended and failing to stop for police.

Judge Barkle sentenced Slade to 20 months’ prison, disqualified him from driving for 18 months and ordered he pay reparation for petrol he stole on four separate occasions.

He was also ordered to pay $1000 to the owner of a parked motor vehicle damaged when Slade lost control of his own vehicle, and $500 to cover the insurance excess of a New Plymouth daycare after he crashed his car into its brick wall.
