Night will ‘knock your socks off’

- Brianna McIlraith

Hundreds of people will see in the New Year surrounded by lights at New Plymouth’s Pukekura Park.

The Powerco Lights Up the Night New Year’s Eve Festival will start at 7pm tomorrow and finish at midnight as 2020 rolls in.

It will be the second time that the festival is being held by the New Plymouth District Council (NPDC) in conjunction with the TSB Festival of Lights.

‘‘Last year was amazing with thousands turning up to see in 2019 in our world-class Pukekura

Park, but we think the Powerco Lights Up The Night celebration will knock your socks off with four bands on offer, catering for a range of tastes,’’ NPDC external relations manager Jacqueline Baker said.

Food trucks will be serving food from 6.30pm before an hourlong children’s silent disco begins at 7pm on the Fred Parker Lawn, followed by a kids’ New Year’s Eve countdown at 8pm.

Afterwards, an adult silent disco runs from 8.30pm to 11pm, with disco-goers being able to chose between the music of DJs Shaq or Suspect.

On the Hatchery Lawn there will be live music from 7.30pm until 11.55pm.

Ny Oh will take the stage from

7.30pm to 8pm before local band Tobetones and the Breaks hit the stage until 9pm.

Bohemian trio Brendon Thomas and the Vibes will be playing their retro sound from

9.15pm to 10.30pm.

The night will end with Kiwi band Racing.

The band will be on stage until

11.55pm, after which a countdown will take place to ring in the New Year.

The weather for New Year’s Eve should be fine, the Metservice forecast said.
