Newshub presenter and journalist Emma Jolliff has died.

understands she had cancer and died yesterday morning.

Jolliff is survived by her husband and two children, according to Newshub.

She had been with MediaWorks’ news network since 2007, most recently as a co-host of the politics show Newshub Nation.

Newshub boss Hal Crawford said Jolliff had been a ‘‘first class reporter’’, but also a friend and mentor to many in journalism.

‘‘Emma was such a lovely person, a real positive presence in the newsroom and a thorough professional. I have had many messages today from all over the media and political spectrum, and they all mention Emma’s love of story and fundamentally good nature.’’

Jolliff was based in Wellington, but travelled regularly to Auckland to host shows.

‘‘She was a fantastic journalist and loved telling stories. She considered it an honour to tell people’s stories, and she did it so well,’’ Crawford wrote in an email to staff yesterday. ‘‘Emma was dear to us.’’

Former 3 News boss Mark Jennings said many people were ‘‘shocked’’ by Jolliff’s death.

‘‘Emma was one of the most loved reporters ever to work at TV3. It was really well known she was incredibly generous both professionally and personally. It is quite devastating we would lose her at such a young age.’’

She was ‘‘one of the most versatile reporters’’ he had worked with.

In a Facebook post from last year, Jolliff had shared her love for journalism. She wrote: ‘‘It may be a very uncertain industry at the moment, but it’s such fun to work in, and often such a privilege to cover stories. Whatever happens with media companies I believe there’ll always be an appetite for news and good storytelling.’’
