Support for the minions

-

‘‘We are all in this together.’’ Many times we have heard it from our prime minister. But I am sure our local NPDC members and senior staff must have missed the point. How many times recently have we heard how dire it is getting for small business. How business is going to be changed, so dramatically, to even survive the move to so-named level 2.

After this extraordinary meeting

recently, held in the council chambers, not once was there any report of the elected councillors and senior staff suggesting they were finally beginning to understand the seriousness of what is unfolding in the commercial or small business world.

Financial distress is the politically correct way it has been written. For us laymen it’s called a reduction in a wage, large in most cases, if you want to keep a sort of job or get on to a benefit of some type,

‘‘We are all in this together’’ was the catch cry of the prime minister, yet where was the council discussion of an ‘‘across the board’’ wage and salary decrease? A salary/income decrease that is in line with the small business owners and property owners struggling to stay afloat. Where? Did I miss something? Where was some real solidarity shown for the mere minions that aren’t employed by the cloistered ones, above the rank and file of the ordinary inhabitants of the ‘‘lifestyle capital of NZ’’.

Come on mayor, how about getting real for once and learning to breathe the same air the rest of the ratepayers are using.
