Beauden: I used to make Jordie cry

-

Ahead of their Super Rugby Aoetearoa clash Beauden Barrett has reminded younger brother Jordie how he used to make him cry in their backyard games.

The pair will square off against each other for the first time at this level at Eden Park next week when Beauden makes his Blues debut against his former Hurricanes team where Jordie still plays.

Middle brother Scott’s presence at the Crusaders has already meant some sibling rivalry but Beauden and Jordie are heading into new territory.

Beauden, 29, was quick to remind Jordie, 23, how things unfolded during their Taranaki farm upbringing when he appeared on The Breakdown show on Sky Sports.

‘‘He’s a big boy now – it’s been a while since I used to make him cry at home in the backyard,’’ Beauden laughed.

‘‘It’s going to be a good matchup. Hopefully, I can get out there on the park. I can’t take anything for granted.

‘‘With Scott I didn’t actually bump into him too often being a big brute in the second row whereas in the backs we do clash a fair bit so there may be a few contacts.

‘‘There’s nothing like taking the field and competing and it’s going to be extra significant being against my old mates.

‘‘I’ve done so much training up until this point so I can’t wait to rip in and put on a Blues jersey for the first time.’’

Beauden has been on an extended sabbatical since last year’s Rugby World Cup in Japan.

He reckons he doesn’t have too much inside information on his old Hurricanes in an era where analysis is king.

‘‘Leon MacDonald and the other coaches have done a great job analysing the Canes..’
