MC Tali releases doco and first album digitally
After 16 years of only being on a CD, MC Tali is releasing her first album on streaming platforms, as well as a full-length documentary of never-before-seen footage.
The Taranaki-born drum and bass artist, whose real name is Natalia Sheppard, only listened to her first album Lyric on my Lip for the first time in a decade last year and decided to also give fans the opportunity to hear it again digitally.
‘‘I was like ‘wow this is actually a bloody good album’,’’ she said. ‘‘Over the years I’ve had lots of fans complain to me saying you can only get it second hand or on a CD.’’
From tomorrow, it’ll be the first time the album has been available to stream or download and it will be accompanied by a documentary, which she put together from old video tapes she’d found in her cupboard. The documentary captures her groundbreaking achievements and the impact the record had on the electronic dance music scene in the early 2000s.
‘‘It’s really just more a snapshot of the moment in time when I made the album,’’ she said. ‘‘We didn’t have social media at that time, so people could only really get to know me from interviews. It’s like a love letter to my fans.’’
The documentary premieres on Youtube channel DNB Portal this afternoon, before being available on newly revived Juice TV and on her own YouTube channel on December 17. But if fans wanted to catch an up-close glimpse of Tali, they’ll be able to see her at the Splore festival in February.
