Community trust grants

Basketball is the big winner in the latest round of funding from the New Zealand Community Trust in Taranaki.

Basketball Taranaki has been awarded $181,491.30 for uniforms and equipment, travel and accommodat­ion, stadium hire and office rental, as well as salaries for administra­tion support, a developmen­t officer and chief executive.

Eighteen grants were awarded during April, worth a total of $386,485.88. The money comes from gaming venues in the region.

Conductive Education Taranaki Trust, which works with children with motor disabiliti­es such as cerebral palsy, was awarded $25,000 for salaries. The Bell Block Community Pool Society was awarded $13,003 for new equipment. The Border Rugby & Sports Club received $11,701 for uniforms and travel, Bowls Taranaki was awarded $10,000 for salaries, Box Office Boxing received $4000 for equipment, and the Cancer Society of NZ Central Districts Division was given $20,000 towards salaries of volunteer co-ordinators.

Other recipients were: East End Surf Life Saving Club, $15,000 for surf lifeguard equipment; Ha¯wera Basketball Associatio­n, $4474.89 for basketball­s, referee fees and venue hire; Ha¯wera Football Club $11,315.20 for lights and installati­on; Kawaroa Park Squash Club $12,000 for salaries for two club managers; New Plymouth High School Old Boys’ Rugby Football and Sports Club $12,000 for travel, uniforms and equipment; Okaiawa Rugby Football Club $3839.09 for travel; Opunake Golf Club $20,000 for a tractor; Park Croquet Club $20,000 for building renovation­s; Peringa United AFC $8435.25 for senior playing strips; Southern Rugby Football Club Taranaki $12,725 for transport; Taranaki Poultry and Pigeon Club $1500 for hall hire and freight costs.
