Louise Wall boosting Taupo-nui-a-tia fund
Louise Wall is hoping all past students of Taupo-nui-a-tia will help to build a bright future for the college by giving back.
Wall, along with fellow former student Paula Bennet have donated $500 to the alumni fund which will assist the school to give scholarships and help students.
Donations made to the fund will be invested by the Geyser Community Foundation and the capital retained forever.
Income earned on the capital will be made available to the College for charitable purposes every year once the fund reaches its investment target.
On a visit to Taupo last week, Wall made it her mission to visit as many alumni as she could. Not just to catch up on good times had at the school, but to ask them to follow in her footsteps and donate.
Annette Ball, owner of Collaborations, thought it was great to support her old school and donated another $500 to the fund.
‘‘The fund will provide opportunities for students in the same way we had opportunities provided to us,’’ Ball said.
‘‘It’s also about having pride in your school and your community and trying to give something positive to the children.’’
Wall said the school was very supportive of her when she was playing netball. This support played a big part in her selection for the Silver Ferns when she was in her final year of school.
‘‘They just made it easy to go to trainings and camps,’’ she said.
‘‘Now we are trying to generate interest.
‘‘It’s about people giving what you can for the fund. We gave $500 but others could give, $10, $20 or $100.
‘‘It will go to scholarships.’’
