‘‘Lake Taupo Cricket Club, posted their 12th straight win in the opening round of the WBOPCA Reserve Grade Championsh­ip.’’

Lake Taupo Cricket Club, posted their 12th straight win in the opening round of the WBOPCA Reserve Grade Championsh­ip on Saturday, easily defeating Geyser City in the Sulphur City, in Pool One.

The Rotorua hosts batted first and were removed for 126, with Habib Malik taking three wickets for 25 runs.

The championsh­ip favourites coasted to an eight wicket victory, with Blaine Inch in good form with an unbeaten 54 while Will Parry reached 45 before being dismissed.

Greerton who are the top seed in Pool Two, also made a grand start to the title race, accounting for Aquinas College at Pemberton Park. The Aquinas students were bowled out for 142, with Louis Robinson top scoring with 35 runs while Danny Pokai took three wickets for Greerton.

Ben Lind led the home team’s charge for victory with 89 not out, with Danny Pokai backing up his bowling with 42, as Greerton cruised to an eight wicket win.

Whakatane United showed that they are genuine contenders after defeating Mount Maunganui.

The Eastern Bay side were removed for 203 before bowling their opponents out for 183, to claim a 20 run win. Tauranga Boys College reached 213/9 against Katikati before bowling the opposition out for 137, to grab a solid victory.

Sikh Sports, won the battle between the two Indians sides when they chased down a good-sized R&A Sangha total of 230 for the loss of seven wickets.

Te Puke proved too strong for Cadets, after they posted 154 runs then removed the Tauranga Domain based side for 72.

Tauranga Boys College third XI, won a battle of attrition with Grasshoppe­rs in the first round of the B Grade championsh­ip.

Tauranga Boys reached 208/9 and then lowered the colours of Grasshoppe­rs, when they bowled them out for 192 to grab a hardfought narrow win.

No one could imagine the damage that the Wanderers bowlers would inflict on the Singh XI, after Wanderers posted 184/5, batting first. Led by a six wicket haul from former premier bowler Chris Uden, the Te Puke region side were ripped out for just 29, in one of the biggest upsets of the current season.
