Loving La La Land’s style?

- NATALIA DIDOVICH

La La Land is making a splash in cinemas and its old Hollywood charm is certainly worth making a song and dance about.

However, the film’s Hollywood stars were almost overshadowed by the movie’s visuals and set design.

From understated jazz bars to a technicolour, Parisian-inspired apartment, this movie is brimming with home interior inspiration.

If you’ve seen it and loved it, here’s a few tips on how to get the La La Land look at home. ADD A POP OF COLOUR La La Land employs the technicolour palette of years gone by to great effect. For example, take the bright, contrasting colours of the 1950’s-esque film sets on the studio where Stone’s character Mia works, and her quirky apartment which a feast of primary colours and bold patterns. Don’t be afraid to channel colour in your home. Experiment with a few bright cushions or an eye-catching piece of art in a contrasting colour to get the look.

If your living room is says drab more than it says chic, try incorporating prints with primary colours to instantly liven things up a bit. MIX IT UP The seamless blending of classic Old-Hollywood and modern style is part of what makes the film’s set design so intriguing. Place a bright art deco settee below a piece of modern art, or incorporate antique store finds into your current decor add some points of interest.

INCORPORATE YOUR PASSIONS INTO YOUR INTERIOR DESIGN Mia’s room shouts of her love for Old Hollywood cinema like the floorto-ceiling Ingrid Bergman poster while Gosling’s character shows his love for jazz in his vinyl collection. Incorporate your passions into your decor. Create a display for your favourite 80’s records or find a place to showcase your Crown Lynn collection. Remember, it’s those personal touches that tell visitors about the people who live there.
