LETTER TO EDITOR
That’s what the CEO of Taupo District Council has caused by his actions in regard to the report on the future of the council building.
His conceding ground, instead of gaining ground, is causing problems with any debate.
Is this a weakness with Green? Has the Mayor put enough effort into the job of taking a leadership role?
The report on the building shows that this is not a ‘fire alarm’ situation, causing uncertainty and anxiety which in turn makes it difficult for meaningful debate.
It’s a problem which will be finally solved by logic, with a good mix of compromise of ideas and not by expertise only.
There is no question that this existing building site is right. The Rifle Range avenue of area is second to none for parking, civil defence which maybe in the form of a major volcanic eruption.
The scope is there for fire and rescue. It also is one of the last areas where civic receptions can be held in the open air for thousands of people, which is exceptional.
I digress from the main point. It cannot be underestimated how valuable this last tract of land is, to ensure that Taupo retains its landscape value.
Perhaps the Mayor in his wisdom might make it his project to ensure that this happens. Arise Sir David!
The footprint of the building could decide how much land they might sell, in order to pay for whatever decision is made to spend money on the existing site.
It has been said that there are or maybe are title complications, but once again without compromising anything, common sense should prevail by transparent communication.
Come on Taupo Rate Payers – take an interest. We don’t need or want an edifice in this day and age. We just want functional and logical conclusions.
I appeal to you, the Taupo District Council, to be practical and logical in thinking about the bigger picture regarding the council holdings.
In my 27 years as a Taupo rate payer, this is the first time I have Taupo District Council portrait photo felt so strongly to speak out on behalf of my fellow rate-payers.
The treatment of the Mayor and the CEO towards the communication with the public has been and is abysmal. It is apparent that the public is not important, which is evident in the manner one would expect leaders to behave.
This includes some of the councillors who could be more
