Taupo rocks again big line-up named

- TAMARA THORN

Taupo is set to host some big name rock stars at its summer concert including Alanis Morissette.

The January concert will also feature George Thorogood & The Destroyers and Colin Hay of Men At Work fame.

CEO of Greenstone Entertainment Amanda Calvert said it had been 20 years since Alanis Morissette last toured New Zealand and almost a decade since George Thorogood & the Destroyers set foot here.

‘‘Our ongoing philosophy is to provide great value for money to our fans with ticket prices remaining at $99, free entry to kids 14 and under with an accompanying adult, and the ability for concert goers to bring along their own food and nonalcoholic beverages.

‘‘These three legendary acts have a huge list of hit songs which will be sure to have everyone on their feet in January for another spectacular Summer Concert Tour.’’

My Music music shop owner and summer concert fan Jason Hose said he is a regular to the summer concerts and is hanging out for the next big one.

‘‘You would be crazy not to go.

‘‘People were brought up on all their music, you just have to go. How many parties have you been to where their music has not been played.’’

‘‘This is a massive line up for any music lover,’’ he said.

When Morissette was last in New Zealand, the then 24-year-old popstar had just released her fourth studio album, Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie. She had been riding on the successes of her 1995 album, Jagged Little Pill, from which many of her best known hits were released.

The star last released a full album in 2012, and was instead spending more time on podcasting, now releasing monthly talks called Conversation with Alanis Morissette.

Her last New Zealand performance turned somewhat chaotic as the pop-star put on a free concert in Auckland. Soaring temperatures became too much for some fans, who had packed into Aotea Square. Hoses were eventually brought in to douse the 15,000 strong crowd.

Concerts will held in Queenstown, Taupo and Whitianga.

Greenstone concert club pre-sale tickets are available at 7am August 3 - 7am August 7.

General ticket sales open 7am August 9.
