We are looking for Taupo’s ‘Good Sorts’
Community heroes are everywhere and we want to know who they are.
The Taupo Times has teamed up with Harcourts and The Merchant to dig out those pure gold nuggets - those ‘‘Good Sorts’’ that improve our lives and make our region better.
We want to hear all about those people who are doing good things big or small, anywhere in our region.
Every month we choose a winner and they will get a gift basket from The Merchant. We also want to highlight the good work with a story so others can get involved too.
To kick start the campaign we have handed out a gift basket to ‘Didymo’ Dave Cade, for his environmental leadership.
Cade is a man on a mission, protecting our waterways and keeping our place natural.
Cade says everyone needs to play a small part in keeping the country environmentally friendly.
Cade picks up rubbish and nylon and does whatever it takes to protect our patch. He has made a name for himself educating people on aquatic weeds and preventing their spread.
He feels great that he has personally made a difference but warns that we are still in trouble.
‘‘Take responsibility, help the council, and step up and help,’’ he said.
‘‘Work together and help the people... every one is responsible.’’
Cade said he had massive support from so many people, and feels honoured that that he received the award.
Mayor David Trewavas said Cade is something of a ‘‘brand’’ in the town because of what he does and we as a town need to acknowledge that.
‘‘I encourage all groups to get behind him and promote him.’’
The award is presented each month to a different person, but we need your help to find them, because sometimes gold nuggets like to stay hidden.
The awards are to encourage and acknowledge people who go above and beyond, and to recognise their efforts so that their good work is properly recognised and supported.
Nominations can be made via email to email@example.com or by visiting either Harcourts Taupo, Taupo Times or The Merchant where there are nomination boxes.
