Hot water theft is on the boil

- TAUPO POLICE Synthetic Cannabis

There has been an increase in the adverse effects that synthetic cannabis is having on users. Unfortunately, Taupo isn’t immune to this, with two males being taken to hospital on Monday night following their synthetic cannabis use. One of the males was reported to be unconscious while the other was violent and irrational. These drugs are causing serious harm and should be avoided. Anyone with concerns about their, or their friends, drug use should seek help before they end up in a similar situation. Burglaries There have been eight burglaries in the last week. These have been spread around the area and in the main appear isolated and occasionally opportunistic. Of concern is the ongoing targeting of gas hot water systems being removed from buildings. If you have one of these please take steps to secure it to the building. Vehicles and trailers are also being targeted during these burglaries. Once again some simple prevention measures can go a long way to making it as difficult as possible.

Family Harm Incidents

There have been 16 family harm incidents reported this week. While this number appears high, there have been four arrests. This indicates that people are calling police before matters get out of hand. This allows an early intervention to de-escalate the situation and to arrange some support for those involved. Family harm can’t be tackled alone so we work with a number of agencies to try to prevent future incidents. Theft from Vehicles Two of the thefts from vehicles this week were opportunists entering vehicles that were left insecure by tradesmen. We implore you to lock your car at all times, regardless of how long you will be away from it. Warrants to Arrest For some reason, people continue to fail to appear at court and end up with a warrant for their arrest. If this is you, please come to the police station or courthouse to clear the matter. This is an opportunity to present yourself before police come looking for you, which will likely be at a time that is highly inconvenient and disruptive.
