Local ladies ready to show their figures
Chiselled physiques and copper tans will line up this weekend at the Great Lake Centre as one of the fastest growing women’s sports takes centre stage.
Amongst the competitors at the INBA South Pacific Bodybuilding challenge will be Taupo women Sarndra Spetznar, Debbie Morrison and Jenny Nelson.
Women’s bodybuilding is one of the fastest growing sports worldwide – and it’s not for the faint hearted.
‘‘Figure competitions will challenge you in so many ways, physically, intellectually and emotionally,’’ professional figure athlete and owner of Silhouette Fitness Taupo, Jude PattieNelson, said.
Spetznar, Morrison, and Nelson are all members of Silhouette Fitness Taupo and have been put through their paces by PattieNelson to get ready for their Figure Classes competition.
Pattie-Nelson personally coaches and mentors her clients, changing their programmes every six weeks to keep the body improving progressively.
Spetznar was inspired to pick up weights and start training in 2013.
Now with eight shows under her belt, Spetznar is a seasoned competition. This year, she will compete in the INBA Masters 40+, Open Short Physique and Open International Figure on Saturday.
Reporoa’s Morrison will be competing in her third year of competition this weekend, in the Open Short Figure Class.
Nelson, a mother of two, is competing in her first ever show on Saturday. She has been training for this event since November last year.
Nelson said she had no desire to gain muscle or compete but she felt she needed a goal to help her to stick to her diet as she turned 50.
Both Morrison and Nelson use Lisa Cameron of Lisa Cameron Fat Loss Consultancy for their nutrition goals and with her and Pattie-Nelson doing the hard yards at the gym also, it gives them more motivation.
‘‘You can’t skimp on a workout when your trainers are at the next bench pushing the same weights,’’ Nelson said.
Taupo’s Competition is a qualifier for the Natural Universe in Auckland and the Natural Olympia in America and will start at 10am.
