A taste of the 1950s at Cadillac Cafe, Turangi

- ROBERT STEVEN We’d heard… We ordered… The menu... The service...

A taste of…

Cadillac Cafe, 35 Turangi Town Centre, Turangi. Open 8.30am to 3pm, seven days.

Playing Giant Jenga and board games were the best accompaniment to sandwiches and coffee at this 1950s America themed cafe.

Chicken burger with chips ($14), Hot Chicken Sandwich ($8.90). Vege burger with chips ($14).

The chicken burger was succulent and served hot. An abundance of cranberry sauce and Camembert cheese flavours, which suited the chicken. The meal didn’t skimp on anything and I couldn’t finish all the chips.

Amazing value for the chicken sandwich: crumbed chicken schnitzel on multi-grain bread with tomato, lettuce, and mayo.

The vege burger was fresh and tasty, with a nice crispy bun.

With three people well-fed for $37, it’s an exceptionally good value.

Plenty of unique choices at the Cadillac Cafe, given its theme.

These include Venison pie, Sticky Pork Ribs, Poutine chips, Beef Nachos, American Hotdog, Chip Butty, Macaroni and Cheese, Crispy Bacon Salad, Hot bacon sandwich, Toasted Sandwiches, Kiwiana burger, Pulled pork burger, Steak burger.

Coffee, milkshakes Frappes are all available.

Speciality smoothie combinations include peanut butter and banana, blueberry and oats, and spirulina. and

Staff were dressed in keeping with the 1950s America theme, with bright dresses and styled hair. Friendly and professional service.

You can tell they’re happy to be at the Cadillac Cafe and living its vibe. The vibe .... Fun, lively and there’s plenty to look at. Play Connect 4, Giant Jenga, Snakes and Ladders, and cards. If you go… When you have time to relax and enjoy the vibe. Don’t rush it. Take friends, family or children. Rating out of 5: Four stars. Great fun and food, but limited options for vegetarians cost the Cadillac Cafe a star.
