Taupo¯ club has first win

- STEPH RANGI

They’ve never competed in an interclub competition before but the Taupo¯ Croquet Club has now shown what they are made of.

Taupo¯ golf croquet players competed in the first round of the Bay of Plenty Interclub League in Rotorua last Tuesday and won.

Their four person team Noeline Fage, Martin Bond, Aart van Saarloss, and Peter Fage played the Tauranga Club for their first ever interclub Golf Croquet competition.

The match consisted of eight doubles and eight singles games.

‘‘The result was an eight-all tie on games won but the count back on hoops scored was 99 to 90 in our favour,’’ Taupo¯ Croquet Club president, Peter Fage, said.

‘‘Congratulations to our team who managed to keep their nerves in check and their focus to achieve this outcome.’’

Fage said the recent coaching day that three of the team’s members had with Croquet New Zealand’s national coach, Greg Bryant, may have helped them out.

It has also given them an advantage for future games in the next lot of competitions.

The next round will be played against the Katikati Club with subsequent matches over consecutive months against Whakatane, Mount Maunganui, and Rotorua.

The Rotorua Club is hosting the first four rounds with the final match against Rotorua in Taupo¯ .
