Teeing off with Williams

- STEPH RANGI

Six Taupo¯ lads hit the golf course with Ali Williams on the weekend.

Ex All Black, Williams, played both Kinloch Club and Wairakei Golf Courses last weekend as a fundraiser for SPCA Taupo. The rounds were donated by each Golf Club.

Saturday, he played the Kinloch Golf Course with Danny Mills, James Morgan and Neil Hickman, while on Sunday he took on Brendan and Daniel Weston and Rick Galbraith at Wairakei Golf Course and Wildlife Sanctuary.

Williams, who has been playing rugby overseas for the last four years, has fond childhood memories of holidaying in Taupo¯ and said he was very happy to return to the lakeside town and help such a ‘worthwhile charity’.

The opportunity to play a round with Williams was auctioned recently at the Harcourts Taupo¯ SPCA Charity Golf Tournament which ticked off its 19th year.

Harcourts Taupo¯ and the community have worked together for the past 19 years to raise funds.

Both days went for $750 each for the team of three to play a round with Williams.

All proceeds made from that day, including the two rounds of golf with Williams, went to Taupo¯ SPCA and will go towards helping local animals in need.
