Turangi girls bound for Aus’

- STEPH RANGI

A Turangi netball club is in full fundraising mode as it tries to get players to Australia for the first time.

Two teams of the Turangi Angels Netball Club are trying to raise enough funds by the July school holidays so they can take part in the Gold Coast Netball Carnival 2018 in Australia.

While a senior team has gone over to Australia before for a tournament, this will be the first time junior players will be travelling overseas.

‘‘We want to get them out of the square of just playing in Taupo¯ ,’’ coach and umpire for the Turangi Angels, Cristina Duff, said.

To go over to Australia, $64,000 needs to be raised to help fund the trip .

A car wash was decided on and with the two they’ve held, they have raised over $1400

‘‘There’s no car wash in Turangi so we thought we’d give one a go,’’ Duff said.

‘‘By doing a car wash, the public actually see our kids out there working hard for the money they get donated.’’

Since the decision was made to take the two junior teams over to Australia, fundraising has been in full swing – not just by the players but also by the parents.

‘‘You name it, we’ve done it,’’ Duff said.
