Taupo¯ Veteran women Twenty women teed off on a very cool wintry morning for the Margaret Bolton-Riley second round stableford. A brisk wind developed but no rain arrived before all players finished. Scoring was low with these conditions. Chris Thomson won with 34 stableford­s, and took home the Starlight Cinema voucher. Lyn Edwards runner-up with 33 stableford­s won the Vine/Cafe´ Baku voucher. Sherryl Painter on countback, 33 stableford­s, chose the Farmers Discount Meats voucher. Gwen Wraight had 31 stableford­s and chose the Caff 99 voucher. Viv Wrathall and Fran Fuller also on 31 stableford­s received a golf ball. NTP 16th Sherryl Painter a golf ball. A lucky draw June A’Court — a golf ball. Longest putt on 18th — Penny Jones who also won the daily raffle and a golf ball. Next week the championsh­ip finals will tee off at 9am and the rest of the field will follow playing Canadian Foursomes. Ladies Vets will need to bring their own lunch as the kitchen will be closed for cleaning. Lunch will be held in the ladies’ room together so we can congratula­te the winners on the day. Tea and coffee will be available. Saturday women The Saturday women enjoyed a fine but cool day on May 26 on the Centennial course. The competitio­n was qualifying for the Lorna Callender Trophy with players going on to play matchplay. The player of the day was Chris Pritt with a nett 76 winning her a voucher to The Merchant of Taupo¯. Runner up with nett 77 was Anne Graham. Nearest the pin on the 6th hole was won by Chris Pritt and the Engine and Spares sponsored longest putt on the 18th hole was won by Janine McCauley. Tuesday women Last week the Tuesday golfers played a stableford competitio­n on the Tauhara Course. The best stableford score on the day was Sheryl Painter with 35. She won on countback from Susan Giesen and Jill Lloyd. Next on 34 points were Chris Thomson and Penny Jones and then came Yvonne Raureti-Carson with 33. The next best overall winners were Beryl Paterson, Carmel Hopkins and Denise Chisholm. June A’court won the Mole’n Chicken sponsored voucher as well as having the Pro Shop longest putt. Sheryl Painter won the Victoria’s Cafe´ voucher and Carmel Hopkins received the Bottle’O voucher. The Merchant of Taupo¯ raffle was won by Gail Searle. Tu¯rangi Veterans Tuesday May 22 was a wet, miserable day but 10 pairs still played round one of the Millward Trophy. Results were 1st Ann and Ray Dunlop nett 31; 2nd Viv Kerr and Terry Wilson 33.5; 3rd Cathie Braun and Paul Bell 36; 4th Julie McCarthy and Dennis Butterwort­h 36.5; 5th Bob Lambert and Christine Millward 37; 6th Gail Rihia and Margaret MacArthur.

On Friday 11th, the final round of the Women‘s Senior Pennants was hosted by Wairakei with our team playing Waira¯kei 1. We halved our match, the only team to have achieved this result against Waira¯kei 1 who won the Wrathall Shield again with 9 points. Lovey Whakatihi scored a 2, we came 4th overall out of six teams. Vets Interclub was hosted by Mangakino on Friday 11th. Three attended from our club, all won prizes. Congratula­tions to Ian & Ann Calkin on their 60th Wedding Anniversar­y. Sunday 20th saw our 2nd Interclub at Taupo¯ against Taupo¯ who won the day. Over both days, Tu¯rangi had the best combined score so retain the trophy.Club Champions for 2018 are: Women: Senior Fran McCarthy; Bronze 1 Katie Siddells; Bronze 2 Bernie Holley. Men: Senior Tiraa George; Intermedia­te John Solly; Junior Toa Toko; C Grade Paul Bell. Vets Mid Winter dinner will be held June 19.
