Cross country champs in Taupo¯

Cross-country action is coming to Spa Park this weekend, with the New Zealand Secondary Schools Cross-Country Championships.

Local athletes from Taupo¯-nui-a-Tia and Tauhara colleges will be among the more than 1000 athletes expected. There are three categories: year nines 3km, juniors (under-16) 4km, and seniors (under-19) who run 6km. The main secondary schools competition is on Saturday, and on Sunday the athletes compete for their region. The top senior athletes will be chosen to represent New Zealand at the Australian Cross-Country Championships on the Sunshine Coast in August. It’s the first time in the 45 years of the champs that it’s been held in Taupo¯.
