Visitors take the prizes

Visiting hunters scooped the cash prizes in the open section of the fifth annual Tu¯rangi Open Pig Hunting Competitio­n with locals taking away a large number of the major spot prizes drawn on the night. A total of 428 entries were received by the organising group, with 54 wild boars weighed in on the day and an array of possums, hares and fish brought in by junior hunters.

2018 Results

Critter Section: Halo Dempsey (heaviest hare), Darkoda Collier (heaviest possum) and Jaydah-Lee Ioannidis (average weight fish). Junior Section: Hendry Mellon (heaviest boar), Joseph Takiwa (2nd heaviest boar), Tyler Dunster (3rd heaviest boar) and Nivarn Fasher (average weight fish). Open Section: Kirsty Scott (heaviest boar), Shaun Makara (2nd heaviest boar), George Bergersen (3rd heaviest boar), Michael Te Kahika (mystery weight), Justin Green (average weight) and Sam Taituma (best tusks).
