U7s show strong defence moves

-

The Tu¯rangi Dambusters U7s and U11s travelled to Mangakino on the weekend to play the Pacific Sharks (U7s) and Taupo¯ Phoenix (U11s).

Our U7s were the stars of the day, watching them race out of their cars all geared up and with a big smile before a game makes our day. Their enthusiasm for league is growing every week. Their skills are picking up and their teamwork is starting to show. Our U7s played a strong game defensively and some good running and stepping resulted in tries. Even though league plays a zero-point competition, they are always very happy to walk away with more tries than the opposition. Player of the day went to Te Peehi Otimi-Woodhouse and Kawhena Moeke.

The U11s were missing a few players and facing Taupo¯ that had a huge impact as the size difference was intimidating right from the start. The first half was all defence work and credit goes to our players for not giving up and trying to find ways to get the bigger Phoenix players down. An awesome display of sportsmanship by the Taupo¯ Phoenix allowed for a little rule adjustment to give our players some attacking time, a big thank you from our players and coach. The U11s then managed to pull off some great passing moves. Player of the Day went to Shaine Thompson and James Whitcombe.

The younger U11s players then went on to join with the younger Taupo¯ Phoenix players in a game against the Pacific U10s. This turned out to be a massive confidence game for our younger players, as they were facing a similar team. They all managed to get some great tackles in.

A big thank you to all the teams we played on Sunday for their sportsmanship and fairness on the day and a special thanks to the Mangakino Hawks for putting on a great day for our players.
