THUMBS UP & DOWN

-

Thumbs up to the beautiful people who stopped to change our flat tire at Atiamuri last Thursday. Your kindness was deeply appreciated. I have now learnt how to remove the jack from my car. Proud to be a Kiwi!

■ Thumbs up to the couple and their children out fishing on Monday of Labour Weekend. Our granddaughter lost her unicorn hat overboard and we could not find it after pulling in our lines. They saw us looking for something and then came across it after we had headed back to the Kinloch marina. They came all the way in to give it to her, much appreciated and very kind of them.

■ Thumbs up to the lady from Morrell Motors for ringing us when our son was assaulted on Lake Tce last Friday. To the members of the public who helped, to St John, the police and staff at Taupo¯ Hospital, a big thank you.

■ Thumbs up and thank you to Harcourts and all the businesses and the volunteers who supported the SPCA Taupo¯ Hound Day event this year. Your support and hard work is very much appreciated.

■ Thumbs up to the team at Industrie for helping me start my day just perfectly. Chrissy and her team are always so happy and spreading the love, they are awesome, keep it up girls.

■ Thumbs up to Lake Taupo¯ Rotary for hosting a great evening at Starlight Cinema showing the Helen Reddy film I Am Woman which was an excellent movie, theatre was packed, lots of yummy nibbles and wine. This was a fundraiser for polio which still has not been eradicated. Well done Rotary.

Thumbs down to the member of a religious group who recently sent a letter to our family - obviously name and address from the local phone directory. Your beliefs are not sacred or immune to criticism. Simply having religious beliefs does not make them true or obligate others to respect them. Remember people used to believe the world was flat. Wake up and educate yourself.

■ Thumbs down to the drivers who do not STOP at stop signs. Especially at the Oruanui Rd / Poihipi Rd intersection. It is not a GiveWay intersection!

Thumbs down to the driver of the red vehicle at 11.31am last Monday who overtook five vehicles on the SH1 East Arterial travelling towards the Wairakei roundabout downhill to cross the big red bridge while towing a big trailer (fully laden) downhill and into the oncoming traffic. How you missed me as you swung into your lane on the red bridge I will never know. The vehicle travelling behind me pulled over at the top of the rise and the elderly gentleman was still shaking. You are neither a good driver, nor are you even remotely intelligent.

Thumbs down to the people who are standing by the bank cash points asking for money and who often pester people while they are in the queue and drawing money out, very intimidating behaviour.

■ Do you have a bouquet or a brickbat? Email your thumbs up/ thumbs down to us at news@taupoweekender.co.nz, text us on 021 241 4568 (insert the code TW at the start of your text message) or drop them into our office in Waipapa House, Paora Hapi St, Taupo¯. Thumbs up/thumbs down may be edited or abridged. Personal attacks or thumbs down that refer to easily-identifiable people, businesses or groups won’t be published.
