GOLF REPORTS

-

There were ideal conditions for play at Taupo¯ Golf Club for juniors last Sunday playing the terracotta tees on the back nine of the Tauhara course.

Leo Huata returned the best nett score of 31 playing alongside his dad Bruce. Leo shot a gross of 44 gross and 31 nett and was only three shots behind his father, I wonder how long it will take for him to beat his father off the stick?

Other scores included Levi Prince 47 gross 32 nett, Thomas Gray 47 gross 33 nett, Gus Hart 49 gross 36 nett.

The stableford winner was Levi Prince, returning 21 stableford points, one point ahead of Tom Gray on 20 points.

We had four girls playing from the purple tees, all trying hard to avoid having 10s on each hole. Although they only played six holes, they all had a great fun with some milestone moments. Maia Gray played the 1st and 6th holes in nine shots each, McKenzie Clelland returned a nine on the 2nd and eight on the par three 6th. Hollie Gray

was a little more consistent with 10 on both the 1st and 2nd hole and seven on the 6th hole.

It was a big welcome to Amy Yuk and Erica Choi, both joining in for the first time. Taupo¯ Veterans Golf

On Day One of the Taupo¯ Veterans Golf's annual tournament we had a highlight, a hole in one on hole 17 of Tauhara by Raewyn McMahon of Ngahinepouri Golf Club (Hamilton).

It followed a warm welcome to the tournament the day before from the Taupo¯ Vet Golf president in the lounge at the Taupo¯ Golf Club, which was attended by more than 110 participants.

The men's matchplay of 80 starters commenced on both courses in fine and warm conditions on Monday November 2. The women's stableford similarly took off on Tauhara course with 47 starters.

A nine hole men's and women's competition on Tauhara follows. The car parks are full and the 27-plus self contained motor homes and caravans covered the perimeter.

The enthusiastic committee and sponsors have planned well for a great tournament and we look forward to some great golf. It concludes Friday with the prizegiving scheduled for 2.30pm. A full report will follow next week with all the achievers.
