THUMBS UP & DOWN

-

Thumbs up and a huge thank you so much to Eliana at the Taupo¯ Library. You were so patient and caring when you reset my new Facebook password after my cellphone was hacked. You've no idea how much I appreciated your help. You're awesome!

■ Thumbs up to the people in the community who put their hands up to help Freddy Petherbridge with his neuro-developmental therapy. Your generous response has been amazing and his family are really appreciative. Thank you.

■ Thumbs up to Wayne Frost from Car Computers NZ Ltd who welded the handle back onto my son's trike without any charge.

■ Thumbs up and a massive thank you to Shivi from Bakers Delight for supporting our students at Toi Ohomai again this year. We really appreciate your kindness and generosity.

Thumbs up and a big thank you to the kind young mum who took the trouble, time and effort to drop off at our home my wife's pharmacy shopping bag which she inadvertently left behind in the

Taupo¯ CBD on Tuesday November

17. Your samaritan action is truly appreciated. Sorry we missed you.

■ Thumbs up to Glenn and his team from Taupo Mechanical Services for his exceptional service. Not only did he squeeze me in when fully booked, he phoned after hours to update the diagnosis, promptly ordered parts and had me back on the road within two days. All with a smile and great sense of humour.

■ Thumbs up to Chainsaw and his team at A&T Glass for their prompt action to a mirror having to be cut NOW! Much appreciated.

■ Thumbs up to the three Taupo¯ councillors who showed great courage and a sound knowledge of democracy to vote against Ma¯ori wards. You are heroes and we will remember.

■ Thumbs down to the seven Taupo¯ councillors who voted to establish separate and race-based Ma¯ori wards without consulting the ratepayers and without even signalling their intentions. Our democracy is hard won and valued and is not to be trashed in this way.

■ Thumbs down to the people who insist on playing their music so loud the whole neighbourhood can hear in the Lakewood Drive / Lochaber Drive area, we don't want to listen.

■ Thumbs down to all the residents and contractors who speed along Kinloch Rd at all hours of the day and night. If you hadn't noticed, there are two speed changes as you enter Kinloch. The speed drops from 100km to 70km, then there is a big blue sign with a "50" on it. This means that the speed now drops from 70km to 50km. The NZ Road Code stipulates that the speed on the sign is the maximum speed in that area, dependent on the conditions. Therefore, please do not exceed these speed limits in our community. How will you feel if you hit a young child crossing Kinloch Rd? How will you feel if someone hits your child at speed? Please be respectful and slow down in our community.

Thumbs down to poor driving.

It's not hard to see why there are so many accidents or near misses around Taupo¯ when you look at the drivers here breaking so many driving laws and putting others in danger. Not one person who should be stopping this sort of driving is doing a thing to stop it.
